Spring Construction Update
Construction on the new addition continues to progress smoothly and remains on schedule. Crews have transitioned to interior framing, with mechanical, electrical, and plumbing rough-ins beginning shortly thereafter. On the exterior, the addition’s brick façade is nearly complete, marking a major visual milestone for the project. We are pleased to share that work is moving forward as planned, and we appreciate the school community’s continued support as construction continues!
Mountain Song Community School (MSCS) is proud to call the historic Whittier Elementary building its home. Originally constructed in 1901, the building features classic architectural details and natural materials that align beautifully with the aesthetics and values of Waldorf education—emphasizing beauty, harmony, and a deep connection to the environment.
Whittier Elementary served the Colorado Springs community for over a century before closing its doors in 2010. In 2013, Mountain Song began leasing the building, drawn to its warm, human-scaled design and timeless character—qualities that support the nurturing, arts-integrated, and developmentally appropriate approach of the Waldorf curriculum.
After eight years of stewardship and community investment, Colorado Springs School District 11 approved the official sale of the facility to Mountain Song Community School in 2021. This milestone secured a permanent home that not only met the practical needs of MSCS, but also reflected and supported the soul of our school’s mission—to educate the whole child: head, heart, and hands.
Now, we are working to truly make this house a home—refining and transforming the building to fully meet the needs of the entire school community.
